2016 Little World Hunt Winners
The 45th Annual American Coon Hunters Association Little World Hunt was held on March 11 – 12, 2015.
The hunt was hosted by the Norway CHA, located in Norway South Carolina. We want to thank Mark Whetstone, Timmy Hughes and Mendell Miller for their help in hosting this event. These are 3 fine gentlemen.
The weather was unseasonably warm for the time of year with temperatures in the 80’s. The hunters ran into some tough hunting. It was just one of those times when the coons were tough to run and tree.
On Friday night, we sent 23 casts into the woods but only 9 casts would return to the clubhouse with PLUS POINT CAST WINS. The ACHA firmly believes a dog should finish its casts and the hunt with PLUS POINTS in order to win.
On Saturday night, we sent 3 casts into the woods in preparation for a final cast of 3 dogs. Only one dog, Slow Talking Big Mac owned and handled by Zach Stillinger, would return with plus points. The other two casts did not have any luck. Big Mac was declared the Champion of the 2016 Little World Hunt. 2nd Place was awarded to Tunnel Creek Choppin Girl owned by Hoats III and Kimmons. Choppin Girl was handled by Marion Hoats III. Phillip Whetstone handled Major for Larry Shuler and finished in 3rd place. Centerfire Tonic owned and handled by Lee Hill rounded out our Top 4 places.
On Saturday afternoon, we held our bench show. This is another area in which we believe the title of LITTLE WORLD BENCH SHOW CHAMPION should be given to a hound that is actually put in the woods and hunted. The bench show was originally intended to give the hunters a way to pass the time during daylight when they weren’t in the woods. The ACHA recognizes hunting dog and non-hunting dog bench show dogs.
Finley River Crossing Jordan owned and handled by Mr. Roger Prater of Concord, Georgia was named 2016 Little World Bench Show Hunting Dog Champion. Wayne Knowlton showing Hot Shot Scooter won the Reserve Hunting Dog Champion title.
Victoria Caughman handling A&B King Samson was named Best Male of Show and the Overall Non-hunting Dog Little World Champion while Angie Proctor’s Molly’s Rock Ghost Flame won Best Female of Show and the Reserve Non-Hunting Dog title.
